Queen of the Earth Chardonnay
Wine
Flowstone Queen of the Earth Chardonnay is from a tiny patch of vines in southern Margaret River, looking west to the Leeuwin Naturaliste Limestone Ridge.
It is Flowstone's top Chardonnay, named after the early name for Lake Cave – a stunning crystal chamber deep beneath the earth.
The grapes are hand harvested and whole bunch pressed to retain texture and delicacy. Fermentation is in French oak barrels, half new and half one year old. Malolactic fermentation follows.
The wine stays in barrel for 18 months with occasional lees stirring. It is minimally fined and filtered, then bottled and cellared for a further 20 months before release.
Pale green, Flowstone Queen of the Earth Chardonnay perfectly aligns fruit and oak, with texture, length and a chalky acidity to finish. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
